Our founder and Executive Director has been recognized for her decades of work advancing surgical care in underserved communities.
The American College of Surgeons has awarded Dr. Sarah Mitchell the prestigious Global Health Leadership Award for her outstanding contributions to surgical care in low-resource settings.
## A Lifetime of Service
Dr. Mitchell founded MolGen International in 2006 after a transformative experience volunteering in rural Guatemala. Since then, she has led over 150 medical missions to 28 countries, personally performing thousands of surgeries and training hundreds of local surgeons.
"This award belongs to everyone who has contributed to MolGen's mission," Dr. Mitchell said in her acceptance speech. "Our volunteers, partners, donors, and most importantly, the patients who trust us with their care."
## Recognition from Peers
The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to advancing surgical care globally. Previous recipients include leaders of major global health organizations and pioneers in surgical education.
"Dr. Mitchell exemplifies the surgeon-advocate who combines clinical excellence with a passion for equity," said the awards committee chair. "Her work has literally transformed thousands of lives."
## Continued Commitment
When asked about the future, Dr. Mitchell emphasized that much work remains to be done. "Five billion people lack access to safe, affordable surgical care. Until that changes, we have work to do."
Congratulations, Dr. Mitchell, on this well-deserved recognition!
